Hypervision announced plans to present its second-generation optical modules at Display Week 2023 in Los Angeles and AWE 2023 in Santa Clara. The release described HO140 as a compact pancake optical module combining edge-to-edge sharpness with a field of view of up to 140 degrees.
The VR240 architecture uses two optical modules per eye: one for central vision and one for peripheral vision. Their imagery is stitched together to create a continuous view extending to 240 degrees horizontally.
The announcement discussed the tradeoffs of pancake optics, including optical efficiency, varying sharpness and limited field of view. Hypervision’s design aimed to retain the compact form and absence of Fresnel artifacts while improving sharpness and widening the field of view.
