VRDom architecture for complete human FoV in VR

The extended horizontal FoV of VR240.GEN2.RDK is based on utilization of VRDom, patent pending, optical architecture by Hypervision that is doing seamless stitching between central and peripheral visual modules. The principle of the VRDom is shown below:

The details about the VRDom architecture are available in PCT application WO2021181303A1 that is agnostic to type of lenses used for stitching between central and peripheral visual modules. Additional patent was applied (not on public domain yet) teaching how to design pancake lens to be compatible with VRDom architecture.

In VR240.GEN2.RDK for straight gazing eye the stitching happens at 52° peripheral angle and for gaze directed toward the stitch the eye has to be rotated by 43°. Precise opto-mechanics, optical distortions compensations and overlap between central and peripheral displays provide seamless view on transition between peripheral and central visual modules.

There is about 15° overlap between central and peripheral modules and therefore, there are no blackouts for eye gazing strongly temporally or nasally. The peripheral module extends the 43° temporal FoV of central module by additional temporal 77° and therefore, total temporal FoV is reaching 120°, and therefore, horizontal biocular FoV is reaching 2x 120° = 240°.

The nasal FoV is 40°, same as in VR140.GEN2.RDK and therefore binocular overlap is 2x 40° = 80°. The vertical FoV is also the same with HO140.Rev1.RDK and therefore, VR240.GEN2.RDK exhibits FoV: 240°x95° (Horizontal x Vertical).
